I'm a lawyer with a Master's Degree in taxation. I'm from a small town named Cosamaloapan, in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. I think the course study at KIOSK is good for improving both my pronunciation and writing skills. My teacher is a native speaker and therefore I am able to learn more details about the English language.

Overall Impression of Toronto:
It's really a multicultural city. The best thing is that you can meet a lot of people from any country here. For myself, Toronto is the ideal city to practice English everyday.

Overall Impression of Course Program at KIOSK:
It was interesting to study the contents of the lessons through a unique method of teaching.
For example, one exercise was to listen to music and then follow through with a music lyric script for accurate pronunciation and intonation building. There were computer software materials available which reflected our learning in the lessons. These materials were very useful as one could learn at one's own pace.

Overall Impression of Toronto:
There are many people from different countries living in Toronto. Various tourist attractions
are available which reflect the variety of cultures, like food festivals. The transportation system in Toronto is convenient and makes living in this city easier.

Additional Information/Comments:
In the short term, I studied with students from other countries; it was good to learn about different cultures. In the long term, I would like to come to Toronto again if my English improves.

I never expected language training would be such an interesting experience! I have learned not only language skills and skills for the workplace but also cultural themes. I am very much enjoying the program contents on: reading, speaking, listening and writing. In just the first four weeks, I have made big progress.

I appreciate the kindness that the trainers take to teach each one of us. We have the opportunity to share our opinions, vision and ideas everyday.

Overall impression of Toronto:
Toronto is a big city with many organizations helping newcomers to settle down. I was impressed by the tolerance, convenient public transportation system and plentiful lifestyle. People from all over the world have chosen moving to Toronto; living here together; sharing the same resources. Most of the people are very friendly and like to help others. I went to the 'Doors-Open' event a couple of weeks ago; a free museum and theatre gave me a chance to know the city more. In short, I like Toronto.

I graduated from Journalism 14-years ago in Bogota, Colombia. I have worked in my country during this time reporting on social issues such as poverty, social justice, diversity and education. One year ago I decided to move to Toronto to reach my goal of learning English as a second language. I began my studies as a Beginner ESL student at the University of Toronto. For my final two months stay in Toronto, I decided to take a program well-suited for my needs at KIOSK Language Centre.

Overall Impression of Course Program at KIOSK:
At this time, I have improved my English speaking ability because we have a lot of activities at KIOSK during the week, both in-class and out-of-class. Some examples are social communication exercises, debates on current topics (i.e. global issues) and visiting different tourist attractions around Toronto. I feel that the teachers are like old friends since they are very friendly and supportive of each student's needs. From my in-class discussions, KIOSK has given me a new view on global issues. I'm aware that people in Canada want to make a difference not only in their country but also internationally. In order to propose a Canadian 'brand' on solving global issues, it is education that will be the key to help bridge a balance between human resources and natural resources.

Overall Impression of Toronto:
In downtown Toronto within one-block, you can discover people from all over the world and embrace language, social, cultural and economical diversity. The social policies and enthusiastic, cultural activities in Toronto work together to build a multiplicity and an accepting city as an expression of contemporary, urban living.

Additional Information/Comments:
As a journalist focusing on social issues, I believe in the power of words empowered through education. Education is the door that opens new possibilities into knowledge and (in the discussion above on global issues) green development. It is education through communication that provides a way for present and future generations to create new, alternative methods for convenient living in cooperative, participation with our environment.

I graduated from Graphic Design in the summer of 2007 from Aman Alahleye University in Jordan. I worked in my country for two months in a Graphic Design company which was my initial training. I then decided to move to Toronto to reach my goal and find a good job. I've been here at KIOSK Language Centre for four months improving my English. I just started a course at George Brown College in Cartoon Illustration and that will help me in the future. In addition, I'm planning to take the TOEFL examination after a few months.

Overall Impression of Course Program at KIOSK:
I think I have learned a lot at KIOSK these last four months. I improved my English speaking ability because we have weekly testing, grammar lessons and conversation classes. KIOSK has a comfortable environment to be in because we have few students in each class. You can meet new people and can practice your English together. There is enough time for each student to ask questions so it feels like studying in a private lesson. We have really good teachers and they really help us a lot to learn more and go through each detail of our studies. I feel like the teachers are like my older brother and sister because they are young and their lesson contents are up to date. Each teacher has her/his own special way to teach. In short, I feel like I have made another family in this school.

Overall Impression of Toronto:
Toronto for me is the place I always dreamed of. I love my home country of Syria but here you feel safe and the people living here are so polite, educated and friendly. Toronto is really a big city that has different nationalities of people from all over the world. That's what makes it more special and exciting! Everyday you discover new places. It has a lot of places you can visit like a museum, the CN Tower and so on. I am an outgoing person and I got the chance to go skiing for the first time this last winter. It was amazing! You can understand from what I have said that I really love this city and why I moved here. Toronto has the best education and work: in this city you will find whatever you want here.

I took all my Nursing Courses in Lima, at San Marcos University and I finished specialty courses in Emergency Training there as well. After graduation, I was working as a nurse at Edgardo Rebagliati Hospital in my country in different areas for instance: pediatrics, medicine, surgery and of course emergency operations. I have been married since 2006 and my husband and I arrived in Toronto 2 months ago because he had obtained a position at The Sick Kids Hospital as a Radiology Specialist. Now I am taking English courses at KIOSK Language Centre in order to prepare for the TOEFL Examination which is a requirement to be registered as a nurse under The Colleague of Nurses of Ontario.

Overall Impression of Course Program at KIOSK:
Since the first time I went to KIOSK I felt comfortable. The staff is always trying to help you in every request you need. They have created a special environment there that I can not describe... You know, when you do not feel afraid of asking for something or when you feel that everybody is asking you "How are you?" or if you are making progress in your English study... All of that makes you feel very good.

The classes are small, dynamic, and the teachers are excellent and they always make you participate actively. One important point that has really helped me is the lunch-hour break. Why do you ask? Well, it is a time to talk with your classmates and teachers about any topic you want without any pressure. I am a shy person so these break times have really helped me.

Overall Impression of Toronto:
It is the first time that I am here and everything is totally new. It is amazing to walk around and take pictures when everywhere is covered by snow. Even though the weather is cold, I really enjoy it!! And the people are very friendly. There are also activities you can enjoy like skiing and skating; many places you can visit like the CN Tower, Lake Ontario, Harbour Front, and City Hall or just watch The Maple Leafs playing a hockey game.

Additional Information/Comments:
I can say that Toronto is a multicultural and cosmopolitan place because you find people from different countries with different customs here. You can make friends for example from Japan, Syria, Turkey and Colombia and know a little bit more about them and their cultures... that is interesting!!!

Student's Background:
I was born on November 15, 1967 in a small city, 40 minutes from Zurich, Switzerland. Turbenthal is the name of this city. I was the oldest boy of four children. I have two sisters and one brother. My parents had a small carpentry company. My parents have now retired from their work. My brother and sisters have all married and have children.

I was going to regular school classes for 9 years. After these regular school classes finished, I made a 4-year apprenticeship of carpentry. I was working 10 years in this job. I had a lot of interesting experiences in this work.

In the same time period, I did my service in the army. My specialist area is the light mortar system. After the recruiting school in 1996, I did special training for 'staff warrant officer' in 5 weeks. In this course, I got the idea and information of what it means to be a professional soldier.

I changed my job 1 year later from carpentry and did 4 years of basic training. The first 2 years is the time for testing and observing. After these 2 years, I went for 2 years into the professional school for non-commissioned 'officers'.

I work now in a recruiting school and conduct the basic training course for recruits. After the basic training, I coach the battle groups in the engagement training. I'll want in the future a mission in another country. For this time, it is important that I speak English.

Overall Impression of Course Program at KIOSK:
TIME AT KIOSK SCHOOL OF ENGLISH: Monday, October 29, 2007; my first contact is very friendly. Deniz the receptionist gave me a lot of good information and helped me all the time. The start in the business English class was very difficult. The time was very helpful in this class. Rudi and the other students helped me all the time. I found the contents of the business class and conversation practice was very good for me. In this period, I learned completely the basics of grammar.

Overall Impression of Toronto:
My host family in Toronto was an important part. I had a lot of conversation with the family each day. I think for my English study, 40% of conversation was with the family and 60% was at the school.

Additional Information/Comments:
In January I will make a test of English in Switzerland. Afterwards, I want to study in an English school, 4 or 6 hours in a week in Switzerland.

Now in Toronto, I am taking the English for Academic Preparation course at KIOSK Language Centre. After I complete this course, I am thinking of doing a Masters Degree in Engineering. If I can, I want to take the Masters Degree program at a university in Toronto.

Overall Impression of Course Program at KIOSK:
KIOSK Language School is a very good place to study English. If you want to improve your English at KIOSK, you should continuously speak English with each teacher and every student. As well, you should study hard. KIOSK is a school with smaller classes, so I think each student can have opportunities to make good communication with each teacher in the classes. All the students at KIOSK are friendly and act nicely. I want to say that I am satisfied with KIOSK Language Centre.

Overall Impression of Toronto:
Toronto is a good city. It doesn't have any traffic problem. The traffic flows very regularly. The weather is very clear. There aren't any pollution problems. Everybody is respectful. In conclusion, I love Toronto's night life. It's very exciting!

What I liked best about KIOSK is the multicultural environment it offers. I brought a group of French students from Paris this spring and they really appreciated the international atmosphere that prevails here. I had a unique and incredible experience at KIOSK. In my first day at KIOSK I was not able to speak any word of English. In three months I learnt how to communicate in English. Learning English is really fun at KIOSK. The ambiance in the school is very nice. I always felt at home. I will miss our lunch time a lot and Friday parties when I go home. All my teachers and my friends were very friendly and they are excellent.

I am very lucky that I made the right decision to come to Toronto. I really enjoyed every moment here. Right now I know how beautiful Toronto is. It was wonderful to study and live in Toronto. The city is beautiful, the people are friendly, and there are many places to visit. I recommend eating at Ki, Richtree, and Hooters. The University of Toronto and York University are beautiful. I will never forget my teachers Donald, George, and Marilyn. They were excellent teachers and allowed me to learn a lot of English from them.

Studying English in Toronto is by itself is amazing, you discover more about many cultures, about friendship, about the Canada's history and you definitely rediscover yourself. Toronto is a very safe city where you will always find something that fits you: from technology to art to sports to nature and so on. In Toronto there's always something for you and you don't discover it alone, joining with students from all around the globe just makes the experience a complete new universe out of reality. Enjoy visiting the CN Tower, Casa Loma, Niagara Falls and more with your friends from Korea, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Colombia, Venezuela, China, Brazil, Italy. It's more than you can imagine.

But studying with KIOSK just makes the experience much better because when you are here it doesn't feel like a school, you feel you are at home. You enjoy your time with all the people at the office, with all the teachers and even with the directors, they worry about you and you talk to them everyday. It's great the time you spend with them, they always give you a hand whenever you need to find a place, when you are looking for something or with anything else they can help you. These guys are all so different, and they become not only your teachers or staff, they become your friends, they become your second family in Toronto. I'm really going to miss all these people.

And if you add the incredible experience of living with a warm Canadian family with whom you enjoy every holiday and take care of you as one family member then you get a third family. Mine was just amazing, we went to Ottawa together, we celebrate every birthday, my homestay mom even made me a birthday cake!

The friends you make, KIOSK's staff and teachers, the homestay family, studying in Toronto, the city itself... Studying with KIOSK at Toronto is just an unforgettable experience that is a once in a lifetime chance! I will never forget all the amazing things I experienced here. To be honest, there is actually a downside about coming here... when you say goodbye to all of this!

I come from a little village in Switzerland. For me it was really amazing discovering Toronto with KIOSK. It is so different from where I live. Toronto is a incredible big city and everyday you have something to discover: CN Tower, Toronto Island, Niagara Falls, Toronto by night and a lot of other things. It was a great experience for me and I would recommend it to everybody!

I was here just for one month but it was really intense. The school offered me a lot of opportunities to improve my English and it was really flexible to offer me the best.

Secondly, I met a lot of people of other countries like Mexico, Japan, Saudi Arabia. It was really interesting to meet all these different nationalities and learn about them.

First of all I have to say a few words about the teachers at KIOSK. They are very nice and kind people. Besides, they like their work. That is why, thought I have been studying English for 9 years, it is interesting for me to study at KIOSK because every day I learn new things, I learn more about Canada.

Secondly, I met a lot of students from different countries. They are friendly and I am happy to be friends with them. Being sure we spend good times together and we will stay friends even when we graduate from KIOSK.

My name is Raquel and I am a student from Brazil. I take Social Communications back at home and English is extremely important for my future career as well as for my life.

I won a contest three years ago and I came to Canada on August 2002. A two week course at KIOSK was part of the prize. I learned a lot that summer and I fell in love with the teachers, the staff and the cozy and happy environment that only KIOSK can provide.

I went back to Brazil but as soon as I got there I started planning my trip back to Canada. And here I am: having a wonderful time!

This is my first time way from home for so long but people at KIOSK, especially Deniz with there happiness and kindness, make it a lot easier on me. I feel like if we were a big family! One of my happiest moments was on a Friday after class when I got a little cake with candles for my birthday. The table was surrounded by the happy and beautiful smiles of the friends I made. When we are away from home, your friends become your family.

Teachers are amazing. Donald was my teacher in 2002 and I admired him a lot at that time. When I saw that he would be my teacher again this year I became very happy because I knew I would be in good hands.

Besides all the amazing classes he gives, he is always feeding our curiosity and bringing to class subjects related to everyday life and global issues, my favourite! Classes are small, so he is able to give us the individual attention we need and he knows his student from the very start of our course, helping with difficulties and pointing problems that we don't even realize we have.

Everyone at KIOSK is smiley, fun and ready to help. I don't have classes with other teachers, but Serge, Marilyn and George are also so nice that they even join us for other activities out of school! I love Serge's jokes and Rod, the only Brazilian in the staff, is always saving my life. They are such nice guys.

I haven't wasted any time here. I thought my English was good, but since I arrived here I only learned new things. It has been so amazing that in the end of the day I feel really tired! I really feel like I'm being stimulated and my English is improving each day.

I'm in love with Canada and in love with Toronto (the perfect city to live, learn English and have fun). The multiculturalism is fantastic and my life will never be the same. Being able to talk to people from all over the world is so grateful and interesting. I have learned a lot and it has opened my eyes and mind to the world.

When I pack my bags back to Brazil, I will be a completely different person: more mature, happier and ready to join the world.

I'm Korean, and have been here in Canada for around 8 months. KIOSK is my third school and I am really satisfied with this school because it has great programs, teachers and facilities that are rarely seen in other schools.

Let me just tell about the programs at KIOSK. First of all, the programs are really helpful in improving English skills because this school has a variety of courses which are suitable for every ESL student. In other words, we do not have to worry about English levels at KIOSK. Each course is unique and fun to be in. In addition, the facilities and classrooms are the best that I have ever seen. We have comfortable chairs, tables and clean floors. We have a great atmosphere to study and enjoy English.

Moreover, there is no doubt that teachers in the KIOSK are very experienced, knowledgeable and highly-skilled hardly ever provided in other schools. Personally, this is the thing that I like the most about this school. They are just like family. The teachers' teaching skills are great as well. During class, we can enjoy English with our classmates and have fun with the language. With the help of our great teachers, "English" is not something that makes us feel heavy any more.

Taking all into consideration, I would not hesitate to say that the KIOSK is the best school in Toronto. This is because it not only provides ESL students with the best opportunities to study English with fun, but also makes our lives more exciting. After all, the merits of this school are just irresistible.

I have been a student of KIOSK Language Centre for five months. I went to an English conversation school in Japan before I came to Toronto. But I didn't have many opportunities to speak English there. I couldn't speak English well when I lived in Japan. I had never lived outside of my city and, of course, this is my first experience to live in an English speaking country. So I was terribly homesick when I began Canadian life. But, since I started to go KIOSK, my Canadian life has changed.

Firstly, I have made good friends through classes and activities in KIOSK. We often go shopping, sightseeing and so on.

Secondly, teachers in KIOSK are all well experienced and teach us various aspects of English - grammar, reading, conversation and even Canadian culture – in a quite easy way. They are proud of teaching English.

Lastly, the staff in KIOSK kindly looks after our life in Canada, from home stays to help with visa applications.

Thanks to all of them, my English improved little by little, but (unfortunately?) I'm talkative – I'd like to speak English a lot more. Besides I have to stay in Toronto for the next several years for a personal reason. It's essential for me to improve my English further. KIOSK will help me to realize it. As one of our proud Swiss student's, Andrea is spending two months in Toronto for her summer vacation and chose to make KIOSK her second home.

Originally from a small town in Switzerland, Andrea now lives in Zug where she attends P.H.Z. College in the Primary Teacher's Program where she has completed the first of her three years.

When asked what she likes most about living in Toronto and attending KIOSK she is quick to affirm the opportunity to meet so many other students of so many different cultures. Andrea enjoys hitting the Toronto 'hot spots' with the many friends she has made – being quite the 'night owl' at times but also cherishes her private time in the many parks and recreational areas.

Upon returning to Switzerland, Andrea will complete her studies and will go on to teach primary school – maybe one of her student's will be a KIOSK student one day?

Jin Sung Lee
South Korea

As one of our very advanced students, Jin Sung Lee spent the last few months at KIOSK preparing to write the TOEFL exam. We are all extremely proud to report that he 'aced' the exam and is now preparing to attend the University of Toronto in September.

Jin is from Seoul, Korea and has been in Toronto for nearly three months. He chose KIOSK because of its diverse range of academics and excellent reputation. The TOEFL preparation wasn't always easy but with the help of dedicated teachers and hard work – he accomplished his goal!

Sports such as soccer, squash and basketball, just to name a few, keep Jin busy in his free time as does "hanging out with his friends". We are delighted to have had Jin with us and know he will be successful in all his future endeavours! Congratulations!

When you can't find Gloria at KIOSK, chances are good that she might be yelling, "GO JAYS GO" at a baseball game, hosted at our Rogers Centre.

Gloria is from Mexico City and has spent the last six months in Toronto. She shares her apartment (and much of her time) with her good friend and roommate and loves to take strolls around Toronto's beautiful Harbourfront area.

After returning to Mexico in September, Gloria is hoping to put her advanced English skills to use! Her intention is to find work doing some kind of marketing for a large pharmaceutical company.

Did we mention that Gloria adores muffins and 'Timbits'?

Hassan Al-Jarash is from Saudi Arabia and has been living in Toronto for about six months. He loves to spend time with his friends downtown and see new parts of Toronto. He also loves to travel – a very special time was a KIOSK trip to Montreal, Quebec with nine other students. After studying at KIOSK, he wants to attend the University of Toronto and study Medicine.

It was really fun to enjoy classes because teachers make some activities to improve our English faster and it makes you love to study more. I'll never forget KIOSK and my friends because I started to learn English here and at the same time I learned about the cultures and history of Canada.
